We've got a lot of the gang here! Can anyone confirm that this is the backyard at Shelter Street? Or is it somewhere else? Please let me know if I've misidentified anyone. Enjoy!

Any of us who have been in dance class, or had a little one in dance class know this pose very well!
Here's Roberta in what I can only assume is a dance recital costume. Adorable. Does anyone know if Roberta continued to dance when she got older? These sweet photos were taken at the house on Clay Street. I am assuming Betty and Mrs. Murphy were neighbors? John, any memories of them? Make sure you also scroll down to the bottom for a lovely photo of Olga. In 1955 from May 15 to May 30, Rose took a European tour with the employees of the Southern New England Telephone Company to England, Switzerland, France & Italy. Idie has provided us with some wonderful photos documenting her travel. Below, you'll see Rose in her smart travel suit with her sister Ida pinning on a "travel corsage", as Idie mentions below in the first caption. Back then people weren't showing up in their sweats for flights like they do today (like I do today!). Flying was a different ball game. As mentioned in a recent article entitled "When luxury ruled the skies: Flying in the 1950s and ’60s", "This era, roughly from 1958 to 1978, saw airlines vying, almost begging, for your business, outfitting their planes with festive colors and their stewardesses (no “flight attendants” back then) in provocative uniforms, promising an “experience,” not just a trip. Passengers, too, dressed up. No cargo shorts and flip-flops; men wore suits, women dresses, sometimes accessorized with corsages." Rose was flying in style! Enjoy these shots of Rose in the mountains of Switzerland, the English countryside, standing in front of the monuments of Paris, and enjoying the beauty of Venice and Rome. My particular favorite is one of the last photos - Rose looking out over the Roman Colosseum in profile. Just lovely. Click on "comments" above to add your thoughts and/or memories! Thanks Vincent, by way of Idie, for this picture!
Ida's rockin' a beautiful white suit and hat, and I love the way Antonetta is smiling. Looks like she has a secret. Enjoy! Click on "comments" above to add your thoughts and/or memories! |
