Armand, Carmel, John, & Bob feeding popcorn to the pigeons (and themselves) on the New Haven Green.
Does anyone notice any changes to the Green that weren't there in 1955?

Some fun photos of John & Bob from 1955 in no particular order. You'll see John in full Western getup, complete with chaps and Chuck Taylors, and Bob in front of the Columbus Statue in Wooster Square as you scroll down. Click here to read about our family's lore in connection to this statue, if you haven't already. A big shout out to Idie this week, for sending me a bunch of recipes and photos. Thank you so much!
Here is a photo of Ida, around age 20. Beautiful photo, as always. Halloween has always been my favorite holiday.
Since we are just a few days from October, I am glad that this set of photos was next in the lineup. Gotta love those masks! Does everyone remember which was theirs? Some of these photos are truly breathtaking. I love the shot of the clothes on the line, and the beautiful photo of John & Bob with the horses. Magazine worthy, I think. There are no dates on the back, and the only people I can identify with some certainty are Carmel, John, & Bob.
Any thoughts to the different locations? Looks to me like a farm, a church, a backyard... For those of you (like myself) who know nothing about boxing, Al Weill was a famous boxing manager. He managed Rocky Marciano, Marty Servo, Lou Ambers, Joey Archibald, among others. If you knew Armand, you know that he loved Rocky Marciano.
This must have been a very exciting day for him. Though this photo is not a traditional fan photo of the two of them together, grinning at the camera, I know it must have been one that he treasured. Seeing him looking on from a few steps away, it is easy to see the respect he had for this man. John, Bob, was this a special event? Fill me in if you can. If anyone feels so inclined, please post your memories about Armand's fervent fandom! Armand, John, & Bobby. Not entirely sure what year the photo of Bob is from, but he looks to be about 1 years old.
Enjoy! You still can't leave Bobby alone when there's a cake around. He gets less of it on his face these days, well slightly less...
I can't tell for sure because everyone has a synchronized glass of milk/Foxon Park soda in front of their faces, but I think the guests at the party are Rosellen, John, and Idie. Love that photo! Also, note the "baby" in the crib. I was going to ask everyone who that other child was - until I magnified the photo. Definitely a doll. Here we have Bob's Christening in 1953.
Cute bonnet, Dad! The last photo is not from the Christening, but it's a fun shot of Bob on a scale with Carmel looking on mischievously. |
