Below, you'll find a nice photo of Armand and Carmel at the Governor's Horse Guard Ball in 1952. It was held in the building above, the West Haven Armory, built in 1932. The Armory was built in the Art Deco style and was "the first armory building in Connecticut to break with the earlier castellated Military Gothic style." Today, it has been converted into apartments. To read more about the Armory click here. The Second Company Governor's Horse Guard was established in New Haven in 1808, on call “to attend upon and escort him [the Governor] in times of peace and war.” They were also a "social force" on the New Haven Scene. Check out this cool advertisement for a "sociable" in 1870, advertising that they would "admit gentleman with ladies". Ooooh La-la! I'm not sure if Armand was a member of the horse guard, or if he just decided to support them by buying a ticket to the ball. Anyone have any memories of his involvement?
