FAMILY PHOTOS
A few months ago when I posted "Backyard Fun - July 1950", John wrote to me describing some photos he remembered of a man who lived behind the house at Shelter Street. Mr. Augustine. Well, here they are! The date on the back of these photos is June 1957.
Does anyone else remember him? Here are John's remembrances below; "He used to go to the chicken market, which was just a couple of blocks away, on Grand Ave, corner of James St., I think, every day to bring back his leather shopping bag filled with chicken heads. He had a sawed of section of phone pole standing up in the yard that he used as a chopping block to chop up the chicken heads and feed his huge clowder of cats. If you ever find a picture of an old man with a leather cap, leather vest, standing holding up an axe up with cats all around him, that would be Augustine."

Certainly do remember Mr Augustine! Augustus August Augustine was his full name and he was the subject of my 4th or 5the grade essay assignment 'The Most Unforgettable Character I Have Ever Met' (probably the same for my bothers and sister!). He was also the source of my extraordinary fear of cats that I didn't outgrow well into adulthood!
